Design, Look/Feel
How does your website look? It isn’t always easy to tell when your company’s website looks out of date. A great resource for checking out current web design trends is http://www.webbyawards.com/. Compare your site to some of these and make sure your site’s design is current within your industry and targeted for your desired audience.

Navigation & Layout
When a new visitor comes to your site, can they clearly see where you want them to go? Make it easy on your customers to take that first step in becoming a conversion for you. Review your navigation and make any changes necessary to create a clear direction and flow of your site’s pages. A good rule of thumb is to make every page accessible in 3 clicks or less.

Website Content
Review your site’s content and makes sure it is up to date and relevant. Does your content tell the story that will help your customers make a decision to either contact you or buy what you are selling? Just as the navigation leads the visitor through the site, the content needs to tell them what you want them to do.

Website Maintenance
Your website is a live, 24 hour marketing effort and when you need to change something, it needs to happen right away. Do you need to call an IT provider and wait on them to make your important website changes? This is a crucial part of your audit. Making timely website changes is easiest when you have the ability in-house to update and maintain the website. If you do not have the capability to do this, start to research content management systems and handle this in-house for 2010.

Search Engine Ranking
What keywords do you think your customers type into search engines when looking for your products or services? Pick 10-15 of these keywords and see where your site ranks compared to your competitors. Once you see where you stand, look into search engine optimization to improve your rankings in 2010.
