Twitter (www.Twitter.com) users send updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them. Some recent research has found that instant messaging systems like Twitter do a better job of distributing time-sensitive information than more traditional methods like blogging.

Twitter has not yet rolled out an advertising model to utilize the traffic on their website. We suggest familiarizing yourself with Twitter and keep an eye on the marketing opportunities to come.

Examples: Twitter at a minimum can help to have quick, updated content for your website. Twitter allows you to integrate your Twitter feed along with anyone else’s feed you subscribe to show up on your website. You can have the tweets come in real time as they are published or have the tweets aggregated to come onto your site at one specific time each day or week. The advantage here is that a business can pull in an industry expert, current event feed or anyone speaking intelligently on relevant topics into the website. Similar to an RSS feed this will give your site updated, fresh content that will not only help your site visitors to see your site being up to date, but it will help your search engine rankings as the search engines love new content.
