Follow these simple tips to help make your web presence successful in 2010.
- Plan to Succeed - What do you want your website to do for your business this year? Identify goals that are specific to your site. It helps to set goals for your website that are tied to specific timelines and factors. A great example would be: “We want to double our website traffic by the end of the third quarter.”. Once you’ve set your goals, create a very realistic, step by step plan to achieve them.
- Stay on Target - Are you targeting the right customers? Be sure you understand your target market, and that your website is geared toward them. Too often, websites are designed to try and reach everyone and never really get to anybody. You can accomplish this through design and content specifically geared towards your target.
- Stand out from the Crowd - Check out your competitors’ websites and come up with a few different ideas on how you can differentiate your site from theirs in 2010. It is likely that all your competitors have a site. Creating a clear difference in yours will help you stand out.
- Make it Easy to Do Business with You - Once your customers come to your site, make it easy for them to take that next step towards becoming a customer. Have a clear call to action right up front when they land on your site. Don’t bury the “next step”, and let your visitors know exactly what you want them to do. Along with that, open up the lines of communication and be easily available to them. Be sure to have contact forms, email addresses and all contact information available. If they can’t get to you for an answer, odds are they’ll go to a competitor.
- Keep Things Interesting - Part of your planning needs to include a schedule for updating your website. If you start out 2010 with a either a new website or one that has been updated, don’t let it end there. Create a schedule for keeping your site’s content fresh and current. A great way to attract visitors and keep them coming back to your site is to have dynamic, changing content that holds their interest.
